We’ll Take the Stairs

We were grateful our sojourn up to the top of Meteora’s monasteries had been modernized by steep stairs and sturdy bridges. Back in the 14th century they lashed ladders together and also had a pulley system to hoist things up to the top.

 

While we were there, we discovered the pulleys are still used. Luckily not by people anymore. But watching them haul up a modern refrigerator was no less daunting.
